EMB Test Results
There was no bacterial growth of our unknown in the EMB plate which eliminates the possibility of our unknown being E. coli, Enterobacter aerogenes or Salmonella typhimurium.
HIV/AIDS Testing
Today we performed an experiment to test our sample for HIV/AIDS. After adding antigens, antibodies, and substrates to our unknown, our results came back negative (lack of blue color change) therefore we can conclude that our unknown sample was not an HIV/AIDS patient.
Using UV Light for Sterilization
To show the effectiveness of UV light as a sterilizing agent, each lab group disposed of their excess unknown broth into a beaker. Dr. P initially, using aseptic technique, inoculated a nutrient agar plate to show the exorbitant bacterial growth. He then used a Steripen for 40 seconds to sterilize the concoction. The Steripen uses UV light as a sterilizing agent. Then, using aseptic technique, Dr. P inoculated another nutrient agar plate to show the lack of growth in the newly sterilized concoction. Both were incubated overnight at 37 degrees C.
